Mutants are people whose genetics have mutated in such a way that they develop supernatural powers. These beings are considered to be the next evolutional phase of human development. Although these powers are great, the fear that they bring with them are greater. Mutants are feared, hated, and even attacked and killed in many different parts of the world. Enter Charles Xavier, himself a gifted mutant with tremendous telepathic and mental abilities. Xavier envisions a world where mutant and human can co-exist in peace. His dream is not shared by many. Xavier knows that to succeed in his dream, he must protect mutants from humankind and also protect humankind from those mutants who would use their powers for evil.
Charles Xavier started the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters, (now known as the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning). There he could train mutants in secret and help them control their unusual powers. The institute is also the home to an elite group of mutants that Xavier uses to help protect humans from harm and evil. These heroes are known as, The X-Men.The X-Men's members have changed throughout the years. As time goes on, more and more mutants have found the Xavier Institute to be home. Although the rosters have changed, they all have a unified purpose, to protect humanity and work towards a day when we can all live in peace.
